Along with project partners Wal-Mart, Kilz
Paint and The Salvation Army, Hope Has A Face was part of the
largest single shipment ever of Low VOC paint to the Gulf Coast.
Low VOC (Volatile Organic Compounds) paint dramatically reduces
the fumes and off-gases which often accompany applications of
new paint. Not only does this provide a better smelling residence,
the elimination of these gases provides a healthier environment
as well- especially for elderly residents or those with breathing
disorders such as asthma.
The Salvation Army purchased the first
Low VOC paint shipped to Mississippi, which was used in 100 Homes
in One Hundred Days, as well as other Katrina rebuilding projects
so that residents could reap the quality of life benefits.
Wal-Mart procured the loads of Kilz paint
and primer, and arranged the shipment to The Salvation Army warehouse
in Biloxi. Hope Has A Face rented the truck to pick up the paint,
bringing it to Pascagoula where 100 Homes volunteers were using
the paint later that day!
